Dr. Noureen Akbar has always loved caring for others and learning about the human body, so practicing medicine over the years has been rewarding for her. “I’m blessed to be able to form meaningful relationships with my senior patients,” says Dr. Akbar, who is board-certified in geriatric and family medicine. “I genuinely care about them and strive to improve their health and quality of life.” When she’s not with patients, Dr. Akbar serves as a member and board member of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. She also likes to keep up with medical research, spend quality time with her husband and kids, try new foods, read, draw, and travel. One day, she hopes to see the mountainous northern areas of her native country, Pakistan.

As a board-certified family medicine physician, Dr. German Rodriguez gets to focus on his favorite things every day: science, building relationships, and helping people. “I love to support my patients in their health goals and guide them in their care journey,” Dr. Rodriguez says, “especially those who sometimes can’t take care of themselves.” Also committed to improving healthcare, Dr. Rodriguez is constantly expanding his knowledge and has taught medical students as well. Away from work, Dr. Rodriguez values quality time with his family and friends. Some of his favorite activities are running, rock climbing, reading, watching classic movies, listening to vinyl records, dancing, watching soccer, cooking, and traveling.

Knee surgery resulting from a sports injury led to Dr. Andrea Nalborczyk’s fascination with the human body. She likes problem solving, but her favorite part of her profession is working with and helping patients. She believes she can make the greatest impact by forming a partnership “built on trust, accountability, and compassion.” She values preventative care and says her ideal form of healthcare is “comprehensive, affordable, and accessible to everyone.” She adds, “It is an honor to work with seniors.” Dr. Nalborczyk loves spending time with her dog, trying new restaurants with friends, and taking photos in her free time. Born and raised in Canada, she has also lived in Australia, Cayman Islands, and throughout the United States.

As a podiatrist, Dr. Gladys de Leon loves the opportunity to work closely with primary care physicians and other specialists. “Patients deserve our time and good communication as health care providers,” she says. Compassion and mutual respect are vital in her practice. “I am a firm believer in education, early intervention, and making sure each patient is well informed, taking accountability for their health,” she explains. She feels honored to serve as an advocate for her senior patients. In her free time, Dr. de Leon loves spending time with friends and family, especially her children. She also enjoys reading and staying active with daily exercise and Pilates. Dr. de Leon was born in the Philippines, but grew up on Long Island in New York.

Dr. Bianca Dubovan knew at a young age that she wanted to be a doctor. “I love building a connection with each patient and getting to know them,” she says. She adds, “Gaining my patient’s trust is the most important first step. Then, it’s listening attentively and being there for my patients at all times.” She believes in “patient-centered decision-making” and attributes her patience and respect for the senior population to the close relationships she had with her grandparents. “I enjoy listening to their tales and learning from their wisdom and life experiences,” she says. Dr. Dubovan loves traveling and learning about different cultures. Born in Romania, she also lived in Canada and New Jersey before settling in Florida.

Growing up, Dr. Roza Sabri watched her family members find joy working in healthcare, which inspired her to be a patient advocate. Dr. Sabri, who specializes in sleep medicine, says her favorite part of being a physician is “helping them make decisions that prolongs their longevity and quality of life.” She explains, “I educate my patients effectively about their medical conditions and how they can improve it, either through lifestyle modifications or pharmacological treatment.” She loves connecting with her patients, especially the senior population. In her free time, Dr. Sabri enjoys baking, pilates, and going out for coffee on Sunday mornings. She has also had the opportunity to live in four different countries.

From an early age, Dr. Juan Camilo Garcia knew he wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. He explains that he “admired the dedication and passion doctors had to help their patients and the community.” Building relationships with patients is his favorite part of being a physician. “I try to create a relationship based in trust by actively listening to my patients’ concerns,” he explains. He always treats his patients with empathy and considers it an honor to care for the senior population. “I have always respected the senior population because of all the knowledge and experience they have,” he says. Dr. Camilo Garcia loves spending his free time with his family. He also enjoys going to the beach and walking in the park.

Growing up, Dr. Timothy “Tim” Chan noticed the lack of resources available to his brother, who has autism spectrum disorder. This observation ignited his interest in the medical field. “I try to educate my patients about managing their dignoses in the hope they can take ownership of their health. I find it rewarding when patients are able to feel good about their health in their advanced years,” he says. He likes partnering with patients to help them achieve their health goals. He explains, “I listen to my patients to understand where they come from and include them in the decision-making process.” In his free time, Tim can be found playing board games, reading fiction books, or spending quality time with his wife and friends.
