Dr. Saied Alsabagh was inspired to pursue medicine by the doctors who cared for his grandfather. “The medical team not only provided exceptional medical care but their compassion and devotion to my grandfather’s case made me realize what I wanted to do for the rest of my life,” he says. Dr. Alsabagh values holistic and preventative care. Dr. Alsabagh loves connecting with patients. “I realized the importance of incorporating culture-specific attitudes and providing patients with nonjudgmental and compassionate care,” he says. In his spare time, Dr. Alsabagh loves spending time with his family and trying new food. Although he has spent much of his life in South Florida, Dr. Alsabagh was born in the Middle East and grew up in Canada.

Sherhonda Fevrier was influenced to pursue a career in medicine after watching her father endure medical complications. “I experienced firsthand how nurse practitioners were involved in patient care with assessing, diagnosing, and treating medical problems, and my lightbulb went off,” she explains. She loves educating patients and says her favorite part of being a nurse practitioner is seeing patients reach their goals. Sherhonda Fevrier strives to be personable and relatable. She treats patients like family and loves serving the senior population. “Seniors are fun to be around and have so many stories and life experiences to share,” she says. When not with patients, Sherhonda Fevrier enjoys spending quality time with her family.

As a podiatrist, Dr. Gladys de Leon loves the opportunity to work closely with primary care physicians and other specialists. “Patients deserve our time and good communication as health care providers,” she says. Compassion and mutual respect are vital in her practice. “I am a firm believer in education, early intervention, and making sure each patient is well informed, taking accountability for their health,” she explains. She feels honored to serve as an advocate for her senior patients. In her free time, Dr. de Leon loves spending time with friends and family, especially her children. She also enjoys reading and staying active with daily exercise and Pilates. Dr. de Leon was born in the Philippines, but grew up on Long Island in New York.

Dr. Elyse Octave knew as a teenager that he wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. “Being in a position where I can make an impact on patients’ health” is his favorite part of his profession. He describes himself as “a very open person” and says honesty is key in his practice. “I put their concerns and interests first, and I try to be reliable when they need me,” he says. He loves serving the senior population. “I am very comfortable managing chronic conditions,” he adds. To keep up with the ever-evolving world of medicine, he regularly reads. When not caring for patients, he can be found spending time with his family. He also enjoys listening to music, reading, and exercising in his free time.

Dr. Thanh Van has wanted to help others for as long as he can remember. “I knew that by pursuing a career in podiatry, I could make a significant and lasting impact on my patients’ well-being, as well as fulfill my desire to help others,” he says. Seeing his patients successfully recover is his favorite part of his profession. He loves building long-term relationships with patients and believes in the “humanistic side of medicine.” He explains, “I always aim to be the physician who makes a living by having a positive impact on others through the values of integrity, respect, commitment, sympathy, and persistence.” In his free time, Dr. Van likes traveling, exercising, and enjoying the outdoors. He especially loves deep sea fishing.

Dr. Felicia Jacob knew as a child that she wanted to work in healthcare. Developing relationships with her patients and their families is her favorite part of her profession. “Every interaction with a patient is a life-changing moment for both myself and the patient, and we learn something from each other at every meeting,” she explains. She always strives to “exhibit empathy and understanding of their complex issues,” while also treating them as though they are family. To keep up with the latest medical advancements, she often attends conferences and reads journals. When not caring for patients, Dr. Jacob loves traveling and reading. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.

Dr. Nida Ladiwala loves making a positive difference in people’s lives as a physician. “One of the most gratifying aspects of this profession is to look into the eyes of my patients and tell them that I am with them through every step of their journey, no matter the circumstances,” she says. She loves building relationships with patients by “understanding their challenges and identifying goals.” She encourages patients to take control of decisions surrounding their care. She adds, “Working with seniors has been a wonderful experience, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings!” In her free time, Dr. Ladiwala enjoys painting and spending time outdoors. She also loves traveling with her husband and playing video games.

Dr. Misael Tollen explains that caring for his grandfather instilled in him a desire to pursue a career in healthcare. “Forming long term-bonds with patients and their families” is his favorite part of his profession. He considers himself to be “very approachable and flexible.” Dr. Tollen enjoys supporting the senior population and vows to always prioritize the dignity of his patients.” He takes a holistic approach in his practice and strives to listen to each patient’s individualized needs when developing a care plan. “Transparency is key,” he says. Dr. Moiz Zahid’s interest in healthcare began at a young age. He explains, “As a child, I witnessed a family member’s struggle with chronic illness, and the compassionate care they received from medical professionals left a mark on me.” Connecting with patients is his favorite part of being a physician. He actively listens to patients and strives to “provide personalzed care to each patient.” He loves “empowering them to enhance their well-being.” In his practice, he emphasizes the importance of prevention and finds it very fulfilling to care for the senior population. In his down time, Dr. Zahid loves spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys staying active, practicing piano, and watching movies.

During her long career as a board certified physician and leader, Dr. Cherilyn Hanna-Mahase says, “I’ve been driven by the belief that keeping people healthy and well leads to happier families, longevity, and productivity.” Her initial inspiration came from having a grandmother who was a midwife. With her own patients, Dr. Hanna-Mahase gets to know them and takes a holistic approach—considering mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. “My favorite part is motivating them to make healthier choices and actually seeing better outcomes and quality of life.” In her time off, Dr. Hanna-Mahase likes to relax with family, read, exercise, and travel. Niagara Falls has been her favorite destination, and she hopes to visit Australia soon.
